Luyến’s Story

Luyen is one of 70 students at Hoa Hong Orphanage. She is 16 years old and has started the 11th grade this year with the support you provide. Luyen has been living with the Nuns at Hoa Hong Orphanage since her parents passed away when she was just two years old.

Luyen made quite an impression on me when I taught English there, she has a great attitude and is well behaved. She is thoughtful and demonstrates great compassion for others. For instance, she always shares her books with other kids that don’t have a book to use. When gifts of clothing or shoes are received at the orphanage, she was usually the last person to choose something for herself.  In addition, she is talented in many subjects, but the best is literature. She is also trying her best to learn English and has improved her pronunciation tremendously.

She likes dancing and singing, and has a wonderful voice. In her free time at home she helps the Nuns with cooking, cleaning, and likes to take care of the other kids. She considers the other children her siblings.

Luyen is from an extremely impoverished region of Vietnam. Her dream is to be a nurse, which will allow her to give back to her community. She is just a delight and has such warm heart!

As a teacher, I would like to express my sincere thanks to you, our ALA supporters who give children like Luyen the chance to go to school and change their lives. Your continuous support allows our children to escape poverty and look forward to a brighter future.
